1. Nike Air Foamposite
When
Foamposite
launched in 1997, Nike chose Orlando Magic point guard Penny Hardaway
to debut the shoe on the court. Described as a solid but lightweight
material, Nike is releasing the newest version of Foamposite, the Nike
Air Foamposite Pro "Gym Red," on April 11. And all the fools are rushing
to get their feet in the Foamposite game.
2. Nike Air Jordan 5
The Air Jordan has positioned itself as one of the most iconic and
sought-after pieces of basketball culture. And this April 4th, Nike is
releasing the Air Jordan 5 “White/Metallic.” With the outline of Jordan
dunking on the tongue and the number 23 stitched on the outside, this
is a clean shoe with all the trappings of Jordan magic.
3. Raf Simons x adidas Originals Stan Smiths
These are no ordinary Stans. The collaboration between designer
Raf Simons and adidas Originals is taking the sneaker game by storm. The
first iteration
with the large “R” etched on the side sold out. Favored by sneaker
lovers as disparate as athletes and fashion bloggers, expect the
spring/summer release to do the same.
4. Under Armour's Curry 1
Under Armour teamed up with Warrior’s golden boy Steph Curry to produce a
shoe
fit for basketball’s most unguardable player. Nicknamed the “baby-face
assassin,” Curry is the one to watch on the court, and his shoes are the
ones to watch for in the streets.
5. Nike Air Jordan 1
This is Michael Jordan’s
original shoe.
If you’re new to the sneaker game and want to own any bit of Jordan
history, this is a step in the right direction. Even if your dunking
skills are less than stellar.
6. Nike Air Jordan XI "Concords"
Patent leather may not seem like an obvious choice for a
basketball shoe, but when Michael Jordan said he wanted something
“shiny,” Nike obliged, and the
Concord
was the result. Jordan famously wore the XI during the Chicago Bulls’
72-win, record-setting season between 1995-96, and after that, the style
was as unstoppable as Jordan’s legend. Boyz II Men even famously wore
them with tuxedos on the red carpet. How’s that for versatile?
7. Nike Air Yeezy II "Red Octobers"
The first non-athlete collaboration, the Yeezy is everything you
would expect from Nike and Kanye West. The Yeezy IIs were released on
June 9, 2012 in a 5000 limited run of each color. The
Red Octobers
however, had a surprise release in February 2014, were sold exclusively
on the Nike website, and sold out in seconds. Consider the hunt
officially over.
And the new Yeezy Boost 350's are available here!
8. Nike Air Mag
"Powered laces, alright!” Or so said Marty McFly in “Back to the Future.” The
Air Mag
is the shoe worn by Michael J. Fox’s character in the ‘80s classic and
is the kind of shoe made more for collecting, less for wearing every
day. Set to be released this year, the shoe was first teased in 2011
when Nike auctioned off 1,500 pairs of the "Marty McFly" on eBay. Don’t
wait to get the power. Get it now.
9. Nike Air Force 1
There are so many pairs of collectible
Air Force 1s
that it’s hard to choose between them all, but the low “White on
Whites” is the archetype sneaker. Since its introduction in 1987 it has
remained a Nike classic. Some even call it the best sneaker ever made.
Go ahead and stomp in them. Just make sure you wipe them off and put
them back in their box when you get home later.
10. UNDFTD Air Jordan IV
With a focus on sports and streetwear, Undefeated is one of the
few companies that has been allowed to work with the Jordan brand.
Rounding out many lists of the best Air Jordans of all time, the 2005
collaboration between
UNDFTD
and Nike was limited to only 79 pairs, and was the first time Jordan
worked with someone other than their in-house designers and athletes.
Collectors item? Yes. This is one of the rarest shoes in existence.
